2011 Marine Corps League Motorcycle Rally

4^th Annual Motorcycle Ride June 5, 2011

Our group met at Peggy’s and rode over to GT’s Sports Bar and Grill - 3701 Hopewell Rd., J-Town at the corner of Taylorsville Rd. and the Gene Snyder FWY. Sign-ups were from 12:30 to 1:30 with kick stands up at 2:00. We signed in and received a goodie bag with a t-shirt, door prize ticket, directions, with a drop card/meal ticket. A drop card is a great way to do a ride, everyone gets a drop card which have corresponding numbers on each perforated portion of the card matching your wristband. At each stop along the ride, we tore off the correct drop ticket and placed it in a bucket for the drawings done at the end of the ride. “Example”..Drop 1 was pulled and done at the first stop...Drop 2 was the second...and so on....with the last numbered portion of your card having “MEAL” which you presented to get your food. After signing in we walked around the lot checking out the other bikes and riders plus Cycle Works from Owensboro was present with the USMC Tribute Bike on display.

There was concern about the possibility of bad weather, but we headed out after a short riders meeting about the route and safety. The first leg of the ride was 18 miles and took us through Taylorsville, Ky to the new GT’s Restaurant and Sport’s Café at 100 Tanglewood Dr., Taylorsville, Ky. There we did our first drop ticket and had a 15 minute restroom and refreshments break.

The second leg of the ride took us on 44E/248 for 16 miles to 62W, then took 555S for 17 miles and stopped at BP station/Wendy’s in Springfield, Ky. There we did our second drop ticket and had a 30 minute fuel stop. This leg of the ride went through Spencer, Anderson, Nelson and Washington Counties.

The third leg of the ride took us 150W to 55N for 25 miles to KY 2239. Then road for 4 miles until 44E, we continued on 44E through Little Mount onto Finchville Rd. following 148W through Fisherville back to 155W/Taylorsville Rd. Ending back at GT’s Sport’s Bar and Grill, making the last leg of this ride 56 miles.

After a meal provided by GT’s which include pulled pork, brats, hot dogs, sausages, chili sauce, potato salad, baked beans. We then checked the door prize table before going outside for the announcing of the 50/50 drawing, three drop ticket winners, the two jewelry drawings and live music provided by Clinton Spaulding.
